This
issue celebrates 100 years of the Australian Tennis Open 1905 - 2005,
the release comprises two stamps a domestic 50c with a male player and
an International $1.80 stamp featuring a female player, both at Albert
Park, Victoria, a prestige Booklet was also released containing 4 x
$1.80 stamps & 4 x 50c stamps, the Australian Open was established
in 1905 at Albert Park, Melbourne as the Australian Tennis
Championships, the competition was renamed the Australian Championships
in 1927 and eventually became the Australian Open in 1969. It was
played at different locations around the country until 1927 when the
Lawn Tennis Association of Australia (which became Tennis Australia)
decided it needed a permanent site. The Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club in
Melbourne was selected as the first home, but outgrew the site during
the 1980's, it was then moved to Flinders Park for January 1988 and was
renamed Melbourne Park after expansion in 1996.

This
issue was also officially released at the 2005 Pacific Stamp
Exhibition, the images represent a number of the early multicellular
organisms of Australia. They are known as Ediacaran fossils, predating
dinosaurs, they have a particular connection here in Australia as they
are named after the Ediacaran Hills of the world heritage Flinders
Ranges in South Australia. The name 'Ediacara' comes from the
Aboriginal word meaning 'veinlike spring of water'. The images are: 50c
Tribrachidium, which may have lived on the sea floor; 50c Dickinsonia, a
'germ eater'; 50c Spriggina, a life form in between an arthropod and a
segmented annelid worm; 50c Kimberella, most probably a soft shelled
mollusc; 50c Inaria, this may be one of the oldest fossils of an animal
showing the entire body; Charnodisus, a feather like organism, a $3.50
miniature sheet was also released (glow in the dark ink was used on this
miniature sheet).

This
issue was also officially released at the 2005 Pacific Stamp
Exhibition, the stamp celebrates 100 years of Rotary International in
the world, the organisation began in Chicago in 1905, being founded by
Paul Harris, a lawyer. Rotary is now one of the world's largest
charitable foundations, the first club in Australia was opened in 1921
in Melbourne, originally it was a club for men, but women have been
admitted as members since 1989, the design shows a figure standing on
the symbolic wheel holding up the globe, all in traditional Rotary
colours, a sheetlet of 10 was also released, this sheetlet was
overprinted for the stamp exhibition in perforated and imperforate
sheets, a sheetlet was also released with Harbour Bridge designs stamped
on it.

was issued free at the 2005 Pacific Explorer Exhibition (held at Darling
Harbour, Sydney, Australia) and perforated by the receiver in a special
machine, the illustrations were based on the 1937- 1938 Zoological designs by Frank D. Manley, the stamps are NOT valid for postage, so the sheetlet is a Cinderella, but was freely released by Australia Post as an aid to show off the perforation machine on site at the Expo.

issue celebrates Her Majesty's 79th Birthday, including the stamp a
miniature sheet and a Prestige Book were released, the Queen along with
the Duke of Edinburgh, visited Australia in 2002 to attend the
Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM) held in Queensland.
The design includes a photographic image of The Queen as head of the
Commonwealth of Nations at the CHOGM meeting, the Pink-flowered Yellow
Gum (Eucalyptus leucoxylon) has been used as a decorative element, the
Commonwealth Games logo was also used as the Games will be held in
Melbourne in 2006.

in the National Philatelic Collection, the sheet is believed to be unique, Part 1 (issued 6
September 2005) is perforated, while Part 2 (issued 10
January 2006) is the same stamp but, Imperforate, this issue was released as a sheetlet of 10.
