A convict settlement was created in 1824 at Moreton Bay (which is now know as Brisbane), which at the time was a part of New South Wales, then on 10 December, 1859 the area (which comprised almost 173,000,000 hectacres) separated from New South Wales and became Queensland, in 1901 Queensland joined the Commonwealth of Australia with the rest of the States.  The first Queensland postage stamps were issued on 1 November, 1860, before this time the stamps of New South Wales were used.
