This issue commemorates Australia Day, the design shows a map of Australia and a portrait of Matthew Flinders, the man who first circumnavigated Van Dieman's Land (Tasmania) & Australia.

Dogs of Australia
Designer: Marg Towt - Printer: Asher & Co.
This issue depicts five Australian dogs, 20c, the Dingo, listed as Australia's native dog; 25c, the Border Collie, originally imported from the UK; 35c, the Australian Terrier, the only terriers in the world not bred in the UK; 50c, the Australian Cattle Dog, the most efficient dog for working cattle in the world; 55c, the Australian Kelpie, one of the best sheepdogs in the world.

This is part 1 of the third issue of Australian Birds, they are; 22c, the White Tailed Kingfisher, found in north-eastern Queensland from Townsville to Cape York; 28c, the Rainbow Bird, also known as the Rainbow Bee-eater, seen in spring in the southern areas of Australia; 60c, the King Parrot, found from Cooktown, North Queensland to South Victoria, mostly in coastal forests, there have been a number of issues of Australian birds; Issue 1, July, 1978; Issue 2, September, 1979; Issue 3, Part 1, March, 1980 (below); Issue 3, Part 2, July, 1980 (four issues down); Issue 3, Part 3, November, 1980 (eight issues down).

This issue celebrates the 54th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the design features a portrait of Her Majesty wearing the "Order of Australia."

Australian Folklore
Series 1
Waltzing Matilda
Designer: Roger Roberts - Printer: Asher & Co.
This Se-tenant set of five stamps depicts scenes from the ballad "Waltzing Matilda", written by Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson, using some of the most well known parts of Australian Folklore, the Swagman (a drifter, who lives under the stars & finds his next meal where he can); the Billabong (an enclosed area of water); the Jumbuck (a sheep); the Tuckerbag (a bag worn over the shoulder with food in it); the Squatter (a landowner, he raised sheep or cattle, an important commodity in the early days of Australian history); the Troopers (mounted police, often hated by the population). There were two issues of the Australian Folklore Series; Series 1, May, 1980 (below); Series 2, August, 1983.

Opening of the High Court Building, Canberra
Designer: Cato Hibberd Design Pty Ltd - Printer: Asher & Co.
This stamp was issued on the opening of the Second International Appellate Judges Conference in Sydney & in Canberra, with the High Court being opened seven days later on the 26th May, 1980 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

This is part 2 of the third issue of Australian Birds, they are; 10c, the Golden Shouldered Parrot, found in North Queensland in Cape York & parts of the Northern Territory; 35c, the Regent Bower Bird, mainly found in rain forests in Eastern Australia; 45c, the Masked Woodswallow, can be found Australia wide except in the South-West & Cape York; 80c, the Rainbow Pitta, little known & rare, found only in Australia, between Arnhem Land, Northern Territory & Kimberleys in Western Australia; $1, the Western Magpie, can be found in most parts of Australia, the 10c & the 45c stamps were released with two different perforations, there are a number of issues of Australian birds; Issue 1, July, 1978; Issue 2, September, 1979; Issue 3, Part 1, March, 1980 (four issues up); Issue 3, Part 2, July, 1980 (below), Issue 3, Part 3, November, 1980 (four issues down).

National Stamp Week

This issue was released to celebrate National Stamp Week 1980, the designs show different aspects of the Post Master Generals Department (Australia Post) early history, five stamps were released in a Se-tenant strip & a Miniature Sheet, some 60,000 copies of this sheet was also overprinted for the SYDPEX - 80 National Stamp Exhibition held in Sydney Town Hall from the 29 September to 5 October, 1980 (listed below).
The designs on the miniature sheet are similar and not exactly the same as on the standard issue.

Christmas 1980

The design of these stamps were based on, 15c, the centre panel from Justin O'Brien's "The Virgin Enthroned"; 28c, a painting by prospero Fontana "The Holy Family"; 60c, a reproduction of the statuette "Madonna and Child" from the school of Michael Zuern the Younger 1680-85, the statue is housed in the Victorian National Gallery, being acquired by the Felton Bequest.

This is part 3 of the third issue of Australian Birds, there is only one stamp in this issue; the 18c, Spotted Catbird, also known as Blackeared Catbirds, a Bower Bird, found from Cape York, North-East Queensland down to the Seaview Range near Townsville, there are a number of issues of Australian birds; Issue 1, July, 1978; Issue 2, September, 1979; Issue 3, Part 1, March, 1980 (eight issues up); Issue 3, Part 2, July, 1980 (four issues up), Issue 3, Part 3, November, 1980 (below).

Australian Aircraft
Designer: Otto Borchert - Printers: 22c, Victorian Government Printer; remainder, Asher & Co.
The aircraft in these stamps were; 22c, the Wackett CA-6, a two seater "trainer" for the Tiger Moth & the Wirraway; 40c, the Winjeel CA-25, (Aboriginal word for "Young Eagle") replaced the Tiger Moth & the Wirraway as a "trainer"; 45c, the Boomerang CA-13, so named as it was as deadly in the air as the boomerang it was named after; 60c, the Nomad, excellent commuter with short take-off, landing & great fuel economy.
