Year 2000 Issues
Every Australian stamp produced in 2000 will have a small stylised map of Australia printed in gold ink, a number of SESS sheetlets (Special Edition Souvenir Sheetlet) are listed, I am sure there are many more, as any come to light I will list them.

Faces of Australia

This issue shows 25 unique photograph's of Australians from everyday life, representing all Australians at the start of the year 2000, the 25 were chosen from over 30,000 entries after a national search for the "faces" of Australia.     All stamps are 45c in value, the details are listed below in order from left to right, top to bottom as shown in the sheetlet of 25 below the descriptions:
FIRST ROW
Nichole & Megan Triandis, Queensland, photographer Kathrine Triandis, twin sisters, these young ones are a part of Australia's future;
David Willis, remote Central Queensland, photographer Darryl Cooper, a cattleman & a father of five, a true face of outback Australia;
Natasha Bramley, South Australia, photographer Scott Pearson, an environmentalist who loves the coastline &
teaches children how to protect it;
Cyril Watson, remote Central Australia, photographer Nigel Brown, a typical Aussie kid who loves the outdoors;
Mollie Dowdall, Western Australia, photographer Katie Taylor, an honest Aussie battler, born in the depression, she grew up without running water or electricity in the house, described as the "best mate anyone could wish for";

Robin Dicks, Western Australia, photographer Patricia Dicks, a flying instructor & pilot, her father was a doctor in the Doctor Royal Flying service;
Mary Simons, Tasmania, photographer Ruth N Timperon, a World War II Veteran;
Peta & Samantha Nieuwerth, New South Wales, photographer Julie Freeman, these two young people represent the happiness & vitality of young Australia;
John Matthews, Victoria, photographer Jo-Ann Lange, a general practitioner, he typifies the Australian ethos of caring;
Edith Dizon-Fitzimmons, Victoria, photographer Peter Abbey, she is a tireless community worker, singer & student, despite being legally blind, she typifies the Australian Spirit;

Phillippa Weir, Queensland, photographer Robert Douglas, a social science teacher she epitomises an expressive, happy, fresh & young face of Australia;
John (Jack) Thurgar MBE, New South Wales, photographer Toni Neill, a Vietnam Veteran, an Australian Federal Police officer & worker for the disabled, "an ordinary Australian who rolls up his sleeves to get the job done".  He earned the Star of Courage while serving with the Australian Federal Police in Cyprus and an MBE for services to the disabled;
Miguel Alzona, New South Wales, photographer Richard Bator, taken at a sports carnival, the photo captures the true spirit of Australian children as well as the diversity of the Australian population;
Rachael Thomson, Queensland, photographer Tahnya Heath, she has a carefree sunny nature;
Necip Akarsu, Victoria, photographer Anthony White, an Australia Post employee & a perfect example of multiculturalism in Australia;
FOURTH ROW
Justin Allen, New South Wales, Photographer Lynn Maree Bagnato, a member of the Royal Australian Navy, protecting the country he loves;
Wadad Dennaoui, Victoria, photographer Claudia Maharaj, with a Lebanese heritage she epitomises Australia's diverse mix of cultures;
Jack Laity, Victoria, photographer Gay Evans, a former rabbiter, he now grows vegetables for his local community, a true face of Country Australia;
Kelsey Stubbin, Queensland, photographer L. Stubbin, another cricketer in the ilk of Dennis Lillie and Sir Donald Bradman, his ambitions are to play cricket for Queensland & Australia, to get more wickets than Dennis Lillie and a better average in tests than Sir Donald Bradman;
Gianna Rossi, South Australia, photographer Nicholas Wrankmore, a hard working mother of two;

Paris Hansch, New South Wales, photographer Nancy Hansch, Paris is the adopted daughter of two loving parents, who moved to Australia ten years ago from the USA, Nancy says she is the light of her life;
Donald George Whatham, New South Wales, photographer Fotomakers Australia, being involved in education for forty five years, he is the perfect advocate for past, present & future Australians;
Stacey Coull, Northern Territory, (the Gulf of Carpentaria), photographer Kathy Roberts, the combination of Aboriginal & European ethnicity gives us a stunning example of young Australia today; (and this one has to be my most favourite stamp of all time, this young lady lights up the photograph)
Alex Payne, New South Wales, photographer Oliver Ford, The classic Aussie kid, he loves being outside in the sun and riding his BMX bike;
John Lodge, New South Wales, photographer Peter James Lorimer, in his home town, John is a symbol of hope to anyone needing a hand, and he has dedicated his life to helping those in need.

The Last Anzacs
Part 1, Lick & Stick

This issue pays tribute to the last Anzacs, when these stamps were issued these three veterans were the only surviving Australian Anzacs.
Roy Longmore, aged 105, born 29 April, 1894 in Geelong, he enlisted at 21 & trained in Egypt, on arriving in Gallipoli he was made a tunnel digger laying mines, he also fought in France at Pozieres, Armentieres & Villers-Bretonneux, he was wounded in both legs late in the war, after the war he married Lillian Taylor and they had one son Eric.  He received France's highest honour, the legion of Honour (Legion d'Honneur) medal in 1998 and in 1999 was presented with the 80th Anniversary Armistice Remembrance Medal.  Sadly Roy passed from this world on 21 June, 2001;
Walter Parker, aged 105,born 11 August, 1894 in Sydney, New South Wales, he also enlisted at 21, arriving with the 20th Battalion, 4th Reinforcements in November 1915, he carried vital ammunition & water through the trenches, he fought in France & was shot in the arm at Pozleres & then invalided to England.  Sadly Walter passed from this world on 22 January, 2000, the day after these issues were released;
Alec Campbell, aged 100, born 26 February, 1899 in Launceston, Tasmania, Alex enlisted at 16, he then trained in Egypt with the 15th Battalion, he fought in the trenches for several months before receiving a minor wound, after being evacuated he became ill and was invalided home, he led a very accomplished life, he had nine children, 30 grandchildren and in excess of 32 great grandchildren.  In 1999 he was presented with the 80th Anniversary Armistice Remembrance Medal.  Sadly Alec passed from this world on 16 May, 2002, being the last Anzac;
The 1914-15 Star, which was awarded to all that fought in the 1914-15 campaigns, each of these veterans has been awarded this star.

Arts Festivals

This issue celebrates arts festivals of all types, with many being held all over this Nation, from arts in a general sense to more specialised forms such as writing, film & music.  Below are five such festivals:
The Perth International Arts Festival, Australia's oldest international multi-arts festival and is held from 26 January to 20 February, it was started in the 50's;
the Adelaide Festival, started in 1960 and one of the world's leading multi-arts festivals, it is held between 3 & 19 March;
the Sydney Festival, in it's 24th year, starting in the mid 70's, this festival embraces all art forms and is held between 8 & 26 January;
the Melbourne Festival, this festival began in 1986 and encompasses all art forms, it is held in mid-October;
the 2000 ENERGEX Brisbane Festival, directed for the third time by Tony Gould AM, it will be held this year between 3 & 24 October.

This issue highlights some of the garden plants & wildlife of Australia and was released to coincide with the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show (held from 12 to 16 April), the issue left to right shows a garden through the season's starting with winter through to late summer, the first stamp is the Coast Banksia (Banksia integrifolia var. integrifolia), False Sarsaparilla (Hardenbergia violacea) & the Swamp Bloodwood (Eucalyptus ptychocarpa. This issues design is based on the decorative style of the late 1890's, on 5 July 1900 The Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act was passed in the British parliament, then the sovereign of the day (Queen Victoria) proclaimed the Commonwealth of Australia would come into existence on 1 January 1901.   On that day the six colonies of New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania & Western Australia federated to become the Commonwealth of Australia, so the Australian Commonwealth will mark it's 100th anniversary on 1 January 2001.
There are four stamps in this release 2 x 45c & 2 x $1.50 stamps; the first 45c stamp is: 'Taking the Vote' & shows the act of voting in June 1898, the images were supplied by the Image Library, State Library of NSW; the second 45c stamp is: 'Waiting for the Results' & shows voters waiting to hear the outcome on 31 July, 1900, the photo was supplied by the Battye Library, WA & the first of the .50 stamps is: 'The Fair New Nation' is an allegorical illustration titled 'Birth of the Commonwealth' by George Dancey which was featured in the Melbourne Punch Annual of 1901 (held in the Sate Library of Victoria), the states and the nation are lively young women dancing around a chariot which is drawing a beautiful Australia and was accompanied by a poem that begins with 'The Birth of the Commonwealth, The fair new nation cometh...'; the second $1.50 stamp is; 'Queen Victoria', the sovereign is seated beside the Royal Commission of Assent (held in the National Archives of Australia) to the Act, (1900), which created the Commonwealth of Australia.  The Coat of Arms in the background on the $1.50 stamps is the border of the 'Letters Patent' establishing the Office of the Governor-General on 20 October 1900.
A Miniature Sheet was also produced with the banner 'One People, One Destiny, One Flag' which comes from a pamphlet advertising a demonstration for federation (supplied by the Image Library, State Library of NSW)   The crowd pictured (outside the Argus office, Melbourne, watching the results of the poll (picture supplied by the National Library of Australia).  The Miniature Sheet was also overprinted for The Stampshow 2000, London, England 22 to 28 May, 2000 (below).

This issue of Counter Printed stamps were produced at the GPO Perth Shop 30 June 2000.  This issues designs are basically the same as Series 6, Part 2, but the stamps are longer with any value from 45c to $100 available & the identifying post office/Exhibition printed on the stamp.

Centenary of Australia's First Victoria Cross

This issue commemorates a century since the first Australian was awarded the Victoria Cross, the stamps are of the first Australian to receive the Victoria Cross, the Victoria Cross itself and the only current living VC recipients, the first Australian to receive this award was Captain Neville Howse, NSW Army Medical Corps, 24th July, 1900, Vredefort, Orange Free State, South Africa; the remaining three were Lieutenant Arthur Roden Cutler, 2/5th Field Regiment, 2nd Australian Imperial Force, 16th June to 6th July, 1941, Merdjayoun-Damour, Lebanon; the next stamp is the award itself, the VC was instituted by Queen Victoria in 1856, it was awarded to officers & other ranks, in the presence of the enemy, performed 'some single act of valour or devotion to their country', the next stamp is that of Private Edward Kenna, 2/4th Battalion, 2nd Australian Force, 15th May, 1945, near Wewak, New Guinea; the last stamp is Warrant Officer Class II Keith Payne, Australian Army Training Team Vietnam, 24th May, 1969, Kontum Province, South Vietnam.  At the time of release of these stamps the Australian War Memorial recognised 96 Australian Servicemen to have received the VC since 1900, 6 in the Boer War, 64 in World War I, 2 in North Russia, 20 in World War II & 4 in Vietnam. All 96 recipients are listed in the gutter strip of each set.
(1 more VC has been awarded since this listing was released, it was awarded to an Australian soldier in Afghanistan in 2008)
